What Your Rates Cover
When you pay your utility bill, you’re not just covering the cost of the electricity you use. You’re also investing in the systems that provide reliable, safe service to our community 24/7.
Here’s how it works:
Purchasing and Transmitting Electricity
Bartow does not generate its own power. Instead, we go out every five to 10 years to purchase power at the lowest possible rate. Our current contract is with Floria Power & Light (FPL). To get the power from the generator (FPL) to Bartow via the high voltage transmission line system, we pay both FPL and Duke Energy to use their high voltage transmission lines.
Maintaining and Replacing Our Critical Infrastructure
As our electrical grid and the equipment used to maintain it age, parts need to be repaired or expanded. We work diligently to prioritize this work and strive to be as cost-effective as possible.
