Making the Case for Cameras

Statistics collected by the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles for Fiscal Year 2022-2023 showed a decrease in injury crashes and fatality crash after Red Light Camera installations overall. The stats also found a decrease in driver’s running red lights. There was a slight increase in rear-end crashes (2.01 per intersection/128 intersections).

A study by U.S. Department of Transportation/Federal Highway Administration corroborated the reduction in right angle crashes (high injury), as well as the slight increase in rear end crashes, which occurred at a lower speed.
