Overview
The Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) is a government agency created by the City of Bartow in 1990 to rehabilitate and redevelop the community. Its mission is to eliminate blight and promote the redevelopment of the property within the CRA district. It achieves these goals through public-private partnerships and improvement of the public infrastructure.
Formal Definition
A Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) is a public entity created by the City of Bartow to implement community redevelopment activities in a defined area as outlined under Chapter 163, Part III of the Florida Statutes the Community Redevelopment Act which was enacted in 1969.
Laymen
A Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) is a dependent tax district established by the City of Bartow for the purpose of carrying out redevelopment activities that include reducing or eliminating blight, improving the economic health of an area, and encouraging public and private investments in a CRA district.
The CRA operates under the governance of seven members appointed to four-year terms by the City of Bartow City Commission. These members, who are citizen volunteers residing or conducting business within the redevelopment area, serve without financial compensation for their dedication and service.
Under the leadership of the Executive Director, the CRA Office oversees day-to-day operations and manages the Board's public meeting activities
