Mission Statement (Polk County Library Cooperative)
Enabling the seamless provision of outstanding public library services countywide.
History
The Bartow Public Library was originally formed on May 19, 1897 as a reading room above the Polk County National Bank with a collection formerly housed by the Kindergarten Association. A Carnegie Grant was obtained, however and a library proper built which opened on February 8, 1915 in the downtown area serving the public until a new facility was obtained in 1998: one originally designed for the Historical Library. This building houses the current Library at 2150 S. Broadway Ave., and recently underwent Inventory and maintenance upgrades ensuring the continuous development of the building for improved patron usage.
